About EU CLP compliance and BPR – In September 2012 EU Biocides Directive 98/8 (BPD) became a regulation – EU Biocides Regulation (BPR 528-12). This is designed to regulate the release of biocides onto the European market and is to be policed by the European Chemicals Agency in Helsinki (ECHA).
To ensure a product is BPR compliant it must have been registered under BPD and have all of its biocidal components registered under REACH. It must also support a label and data sheet in the language of the member state of free sale.
These regulations became law in June 2015 to fall in line with the changes in compliance labelling and packaging ( CLP ) legislation.
CHiP legislation became CLP in June 2015 and this requires a number of significant changes to labelling and data sheets. These changes require an extended data sheet and this extended data sheet is to be available in electronic format. The labels must be compliant to the data sheet and be available in the different language requirements as per BPR.
